Tutorial: Eye Contouring & Metallics

Countouring at eye level

Contouring – the skilful interaction of light and dark to visibly define the facial features – has evolved from a fashion trend to a popular part of the daily make-up routine.

Eye Contouring brings this technique up to eye level: dark shades create depth; shimmering highlights and metallic accents give the eyes a beautiful sparkle.

Follow these simple steps to emphasise specific eye areas:

Step 1

The Eye & Brow Contouring Palette 010 with matt brown tones and a shimmering highlighter accentuates the eyes beautifully.

First, contour the crease of the lid to add visible depth:

Use the Smokey Eyes Brush to apply one of the brown shades of the Eye & Brow Contouring Palette 010 in the crease of the lid and blend.

Step 2

Next, apply the light colour of the Eye & Brow Contouring Palette 010 on the eyelid and blend to set highlights and optically open the eyes.

Step 3

Select a brown shade that suits the colour of the eyebrows to fill in and define the brows using the flat end of the Smokey Eyes Brush.

Step 4

Now it's time to trace a line along the lower lash line with the dark side of the Contouring & Highlighting Duo Pencil 010 and then blend it with the Smokey Eyes Brush. This makes the lash line look fuller and thicker.

Only trace the line from the outer corner to the centre of the eye - avoid complete lines as this can make the eyes look smaller.

Next, highlight the inner corner of the eye with the light side of the eye pencil.

Step 5

Add festive highlights by tracing a line along the upper lid with the Liquid Metal Gel Eye Pencil 020

The soft, gel-like texture is longlasting and creates spectacular, metallic effects.

Step 6

As a final step, complete the look with the Prêt-á-Volume Mascara Velvet Black:

Apply a coat of mascara on the upper lashes - for expressive volume in smokey black that lasts up to 18 hours.
