What exactly are microplastics?
Microplastics are solid, insoluble substances in powder form on a plastic basis. Until now, these substances have often been used in cosmetics products for various reasons. Why? Because they are so versatile. They can mattify, make the skin feel soft, conjure-up soft-focus effects to conceal wrinkles, make the product last longer and much more. So far, so good. If these tiny particles are such multi-talents, why do we want to get rid of them? Because they are not biodegradable and therefore pose a problem for our health and the environment. We love our products. That’s why we have to ask ourselves how much they contribute to worldwide water pollution caused by microplastic particles. So, we conducted an impact study and found out that just over half of the make-up is washed off with water, which means that it can enter the water cycle and the environment. And that's something we don't want. So, we have decided that it's time for some changes. We want to remove microplastic particles from our products step-by-step by March 2023. We have already started the first pilot projects for this, and with great success! We are confident that we will be able to continue to offer the highest quality with great textures. The only thing that will be left out are the microplastic particles. And that is a good thing.

Liquid plastic under a microscope
Microplastic particles are solid plastic particles, but we keep hearing about so-called "liquid plastic". This often refers to liquid synthetic polymers. However, these are not the same as microplastics and do not necessarily have to be as environmentally harmful. Synthetic polymers can be very different in nature. Some are fully or partially biodegradable, while others are 100% non-biodegradable. In cosmetics products, synthetic polymers are mostly found as film formers. The fact is that synthetic polymers do a great job of improving product performance in many cases. On the other hand, they can have a negative impact on the environment. This is where our raw material specialists come in: They specifically select substances that we can use with a clear conscience. And since we have extremely critical specialists, we no longer use acrylic polymers in our Clean ID products, for example. Not because they are often mentioned in the discussion about liquid plastic, but out of conviction.
