Highlighter as a miracle weapon for shimmering accents
In the cold winter months, your skin usually does not get enough oxygen and therefore appears slightly paleer. However, to keep your complexion radiant in winter, you can opt for CATRICE highlighter products. Highlights can also be placed on certain areas of the face in summer to brighten up the desired areas. Here we reveal which beauty products are best suited to your type and how to best apply them.
Different textures for each type
Highlighters come in different textures to match different skin types. So whether you prefer powdery, creamy or liquid products usually depends on your skin’s appearance, but also on your personal taste.
Powder
For powders, you can easily dose the amount you apply to the skin. They are also easy to blend and are therefore ideal for beginners. Powders are also perfect for combination skin. To apply powder correctly, use a fan brush. This allows you to sweep over the pallet and then lightly tap it on your wrist to avoid overdosing the colour.
Tip: Most highlighters in our contouring palette contain different nuances that go with different complexions and make-up looks. So you always have the perfect tone for every look.
Creamy highlighter sticks
Creamy textures, like a highlighter stick, are ideal for dry and normal skin types. The softer texture allows a highlighter pen to even out dry areas of the skin. The texture is easy to blend and creates a pleasantly delicate shimmer effect. With your ring finger, you pick up some of the product, rub it between your fingers and gently press it onto your skin with your fingertip.
Liquid highlighters
Liquid products, on the other hand, are smudge and sweat resistant, making them perfect for oily skin. They give your make-up a real upgrade with a glow effect. It is best to place a few drops on the back of your hand, spread them with your index finger and stroke them quickly onto your cheekbones, forehead or the desired areas of the face.
How do I find the right colour for my skin tone?
Besides the texture, the right colour and the strength of the gloss effect are important to match the highlight products to your skin tone. As a general rule, highlighters should be slightly brighter than your own skin tone.
Stronger bronze, gold and peach shades are therefore ideal for warm skin tones. Slightly tanned and medium skin tones are beautifully highlighted with shades such as rosé, champagne and light gold. A rich pink is also a great choice for this skin tone.
For a cooler complexion, silver and mother-of-pearl tones are perfect for a perfect finish.
The perfect highlight: shiny or matte?
CATRICE highlighters are available in both shiny and matt.
Shimmering and glossy products create a natural and summery complexion, perfect for finishing off simple looks.
Matte highlight pens or powders, on the other hand, are very similar to a classic concealer. However, they are only slightly tinted and give your face a special fresh kick.
Matte products are also great for oily skin, as certain areas of the face are highlighted without being too shiny. However, which variant is more suitable for you depends primarily on your personal taste.
Where is highlighter applied?
Nothing makes your face look healthier and brighter than a fresh glow. The art is to apply the highlighter in the right places and not to emphasise the whole face. The perfect sections for shimmering effects are:
Forehead
Inside of the eye angle
bridge of nose
Browbones
Amorbogen
Lips
Cheekbones
Targeted contouring lets you shape your face and highlight your chocolate side.
Set eye and brow highlights
For a fresh summer look like on holiday, you can apply the highlight colour subtly in the middle of your forehead and blend it in a star shape to the outside. A trick for tired eyes is to apply makeup to the inner corners of the eye. This will brighten your eyes and leave you looking fresh for the day. Alternatively, use a creamy stick to highlight the bottom of your eyebrows.
How it works with your narrow nose
You can skilfully make your nose appear narrower and finer with a little highlighter. Simply apply to the back of your nose and you’re done.
Full lips
For beautiful lip contours, a cream is best dabbed onto the orange arch. Achieve even fuller lips with a little glow on the lower lip. The shimmer effect enhances the reflection of light and gives your mouth more volume.
Correctly emphasise cheeks
The highlighter can also be applied above the cheekbones. This will help to accentuate your bone structure and your facial features appear narrower and more contoured.
Tip: For a fresh complexion, you can mix some highlighter into your foundation and apply it all over your face.
How do I apply highlighters correctly?
For a natural look, it is better not to use too much highlighter. The effects shimmer best when applied to targeted areas of the face. It is best to use your stick, powder or cream only at the end of your make-up routine and use it as a radiant finish. Depending on the texture of the product, both your fingers and special brushes can be used as aids.
Creams and liquids are best blended with your finger, while powder is better blended with a brush. Ideally, combine the textures with those of your other make-up products. This makes your look look even. Instead of applying the highlights over the surface, use a lot of little swabs.
