Anyone reaching into the cosmetics shelf today is not only looking for visually appealing products with an impressive performance, but also wants to know what ingredients they contain. Clean Beauty is the key word here – a beauty category that convinces us and has come to stay. At Catrice, we see Clean Beauty holistically: We want to conserve the resources of our environment with vegan cosmetics that are as sustainable as possible.
There is no universal definition of Clean Beauty in the cosmetics industry. Each brand defines its own unique standard to suit its own and country-specific requirements. For Catrice, Clean Beauty means that our products are as sustainable as possible and are made of high levels of natural ingredients. It is also important to us that all our products contain safe ingredients – not only for the skin, but also for the environment. In general, all of our products are cruelty-free in keeping with EU legislation, vegan, free of microplastics, PEGs, parabens and volatile silicones.
Clean beauty is often confused with natural cosmetics, but they are different concepts. Clean Beauty relies on minimalism, meaning as few ingredients as possible, including both natural and non-natural ingredients. Certified natural cosmetics, on the other hand, only use plant-based and natural ingredients. However, not all natural ingredients are sustainable and harmless, just as not every synthetic substance is harmful. We continue to use synthetic ingredients as long as they are safe for people and the environment.
For us, “clean” does not mean that the products are natural cosmetics-compliant, but that the focus is on sustainability and the safety of the raw materials contained. Therefore, we also allow synthetic raw materials that have a good environmental compatibility.
All of our products have been free of microplastics since March 2023 - of course with the same quality and texture! But we want to get even more involved in protecting the oceans and reducing plastic waste beyond that.
